Email bouncing?

No. You are not going mad.

Yes. Your emails are getting more bounce backs, ending up on blacklists and your friends haven’t received an email from you in weeks.

This is happening to all of us in different ways and in different degrees and it is due to the fight against everyones favourite band of creeps, the cybercriminals.

The email big hitters around the world, Microsoft, Google, ect have been tightening security in every corner of the globe in an attempt to render spam and scam emails ineffective.

It is not working but it’s worth a try but we, ordinary law abiding (mostly) citizens are paying the price.

The net result of this is not all mailservers can cope. Some are woefully out of date and while the IT departments scramble to apply a flurry of updates and or new hardware our emails get bounced or lost. Some email providers get their acts together faster than others but because the internet is a chain of networks the weakest link can still trip us up.

While we wait for the email landscape to settle all we can do is wait and resend the email if and when we are alerted of its demise.

If you do get a bounce back have a good look at the reason why. Often it is because that email address no longer exists and this is particularly common at the moment because a lot of email addresses are changing due to iiNet, Internode and others pulling up stumps.

Sometimes the bounce back message will tell you that you have been considered spam. The spam list you have been added to is often listed in the bounce back message and by contacting that company you can have yourself removed.
