Ages ago I wrote an article about the best place to buy a second hand Mac and since that time I have always referred people to it.
However, recently a new rich source of second hand macs has come to light and it comes from a company I have dealt with for well over a decade.
Macfixit has been around for 20 years and I think I have been dealing with them for 19 years and 11 months without a grain of concern. So when Macfixit started offering second hands macs I was delighted.
As always, when buying a new (or used) device these days, it is very important to make sure it has enough storage to meet your needs. In most cases new devices cannot be upgraded once they are purchased so before you order anything check how large your disk is now, how much space you are using and consider whether you are likely to need more in the future.
On an older Mac… click on the Apple menu, choose About this Mac and click on the Storage tab.
On a newer Mac… click on the Apple menu, choose Settings, click on General and then Storage.
On an iPhone or iPad… Tap on Settings, choose General then iPhone/iPad Storage.
As the storage capacity is likely the priciest part of your purchase, here is my guide for saving money.
If you currently have a 256GB capacity drive and you are nearly full your next purchase needs a 512GB drive.
If you currently have a 256GB capacity drive and you are nowhere near full your next purchase should be a 256GB drive.
If you currently have a 512GB capacity drive and you are only using a small amount (well less than half) then you need a 256GB drive.
If you currently have a 1TB capacity drive and you are nearly full your next purchase needs a 2TB drive.
If you currently have a 1TB capacity drive and you are using less than 500GB of it your next purchase needs a 512GB drive.
There are some great bargains so check them out here and if you like us to transfer the data, as always, our advise is leave it in the box and give us a call.
