Printing Envelopes on a Mac

Computers and printers have been around for ages, yet despite all the bells and whistles – fonts, games, graphic cards and mega storage – it seems printing labels and envelopes is the computer world’s version of the Times crossword.  Many offices still rely on typewriters for a quick label fix or fork out over $300 on label printers that do little more than print labels.

However, over the past couple of years, applications and utilities have emerged that truly solve this problem. And the best news is you probably already have one – and it’s free!

The Address Book, that little brown icon in your dock, is surprisingly useful.  It boasts Bluetooth connectivity, ensuring your mobile phone numbers are always synced with your Address Book.  Plus, it includes built-in templates for printing envelopes, labels and lists.

Simply select an address and pull down the Utilities menu (it resembles a cog). You’ll be amazed at the options available.

Another dark horse is Easy Envelopes, a handy tool that lets you print double or single-sided envelopes of any size with your chosen font and size.  Simply copy the address to the clipboard or search for it using the widget which looks in your Address Book.  The address is then conveniently placed and you can print by clicking the stamp. It’s very cute!

Design-wise it’s great and functionally it’s a marvel.  Plus it’s free.
