If you have a Macbook Pro 2016 or 2017 you’d be forgiven for thinking that its out of warranty.
Any issues and the repair, likely expensive, falls to you.
Well for the most part, sadly, you are right… but not if you have the aforementioned with a battery issue.
Batteries are expensive so that is why it is great to hear that Apple is offering free replacement for certain batteries in certain models.
So who is eligible?
MacBook Pro 13 inch 2016, 2017 and the MacBook Pro 15 inch 2016 and 2017.
There is a good chance that you’ve already noticed something wrong but if not, click on the Battery icon in the menubar and if it reports “Service Recommended” then you are a shoe in.
Apple also say that even if you haven’t experienced anything odd, upgrading to Big Sur would be a very smart move asap.

Thanks for this, Renny. Good to know I was not the only one. I had the ‘top case with battery’ replaced on my MB Pro 2016 in August last year. Sadly, before the replacement program began. It cost me $289 at Apple Canberra, and it fixed the problem. I must say the service was good even if the price wasn’t.
They also replaced a ‘vent/antenna module’ at no charge (nominal cost $139.
