Dictating on a Mac for free.

If you’ve recently purchased a Mac you might be surprised to learn that came with inbuilt dictation. And not only that but, in a quiet environment, it works without the need for additional hardware such as microphones.

To get it working simply:
1. Go to Apple menu choose System Preferences.
2. Click on the Dictation & Speech icon.
3.Choose the Language and the Microphone source you intend to use as well as the Shortcut key (this is the key to hold down while you dictate)
4. From here open up a Word document (or some other word processing application), hold down your shortcut key and speak away.
Admittedly this wasn’t perfect but it was pretty good when you consider I have a funny English accent and I was sitting a good two feet away from the internal microphone.
