Battery woes and how to fix them

Hand on my heart I am not having battery issues with my iPhone 4S or iPhone 4. But there is a lot of yelling and blogging going on so I guess something must be up.

In the months and weeks since the 4S was released there have been a number of hints surface claiming to improve battery life. I have done most – if not all – of these so maybe thats why I can enjoy my phone all day?

In any event it can’t hurt to try some of these at least.

Reset Network settings

  1. Tap on Settings
  2. Tap on General
  3. Tap on Reset Settings
  4. Tap on Reset Network Settings
  5. Type in your Passcode (if any)

From here you will need to re-enter any wireless passwords.

Turn off Location based Services – that you don’t need

  1. Tap on Settings
  2. Tap on Location Services
  3. Slide off any service that wants your location data but doesn’t really need it. For example, the game Flight Control doesn’t need to know where I am for me to enjoy it – so that gets turned off. Navfree on the other hand (GPS navigator) would be fairly useless if it didn’t know where I was.

System Services

While in Location Services, scroll to the end of the list and tap on System Services and turn off Time Zone Settings and Location-Based iAds

Turn off Diagnostics

  1. Tap on Settings
  2. Tap on About
  3. Tap on Diagnostic & Usage
  4. Tap on Don’t Send

Turn off Raise to speak (If you have an iPhone 4S)

  1. Tap on Settings
  2. Tap on General
  3. Tap on Siri
  4. Turn off Raise to Speak

Condition the battery

It is also recommended by many people in the battery industry that you condition your battery at least once a month. My habit is, at the end of the month, I allow my iPhone to die completely and then recharge it fully.

One last thing. I have found a lot of use for a cheap little application called Boost Magic, it seems to work wonders!
