Tesla is one step closer to CarPlay

A little while back I wrote about the challenges of trying to emulate Apple Carplay in a Tesla.

If you missed it, basically I went through each of the features of CarPlay (something Tesla doesn’t support) and what Tesla functions and available apps you could use instead.

It is mostly doable but one frustrating element was listening to podcasts.

Tesla offers TuneIn as their podcast app and while it ‘works’ it looks like it was designed by a first year apprentice and they don’t care if you can keep track of what you’ve played or what’s new. It often refuses to load the podcast at all so what you end up listening to is your own screaming.

Well, in the coming weeks, Tesla are offering the native Apple Podcasts app to its collection of infotainment software. This is the same app you get in CarPlay and on your iPhone. It will be much the same in feature set and design as the native Apple Music app that was offered about 12 months ago.

Once it is activated the user will be given the familiar Listen Now and Up Next functions as well as the ability to browse and subscribe to new shows. This is a very welcomed addition and goes a long way to make up for the fact that CarPlay isn’t, and very likely never will be, offered in a Tesla.

So, if this has been the reason (as it was with me) for not considering a Tesla as your next car, you can be assured its no longer an issue. If you do decide to buy a Tesla first reach out to a family member or friend that already has a Tesla and use their referral code and get $750.00 off your car. Your friend will also gets points towards charging. If not, feel free to use my code or send it to anyone else who is considering a Tesla.
